- Unplug the printer and remove paper, paper trays, etc.
- Blow dust out, or use a vacuum
- Remove ink cartridges and inspect for damage/ink level
- Clean carrier guide rod with a soft cloth - this does not get lubricated!
- Clean the Carrier placement strip - that clear plastic strip with
vertical lines on it - with a soft cloth
- Clean the main paper feed rollers with a damp rag. Older printers
often require some 'resurfacing', up to and including the use of a wire
brush or brillo pad. In general, you should be able to feel that they
are tacky.
- Clean the cork separation pad - on the paper feed tray - with the
same concept. Start with warm water, but use a scrubbing tool if neccessary.
If the printer continually multiple feeds, this pad may need to be replaced.
- Re-vacuum to remove all dust and debris.
- Clean the printhead contacts with a Qtip and alcohol. While you're
at it, hit the print cartridge contacts.
- Run a test print... you should be in business!
